Brussels: the LEZ, the registration and the EUR 150 fine
Checked 3 Nov 2026
Every foreign car except a Dutch one must register for the Brussels low-emission zone, before entry or within five days. An unregistered foreign car is fined EUR 150 even when it meets the standards; a non-compliant one without a day pass or exemption is fined EUR 350.

- Register before you enter or within five days after entering; for a passage on 3 January the deadline is midnight on 8 January.
- Keep the confirmation; the portal's simulator shows whether the plate is registered.
